Friday Finish

This old UFO is finished and will be delivered to a friend today. I am so very happy with how this quilt has turned out. I love the pattern and will probably make it again!

I used Hobbs washable wool batting, and I am so happy with how the quilting came out. I think the design is called “ripples” from Urban Elementz and I adjusted the size and proportion. I rarely change the proportion on a pattern, but I adjust this one each time I use it, and it seems to work so well!

Here is a better view of the quilting pattern. I increased the height to 15 inches, so it is a much larger version than what pops up automatically.

The backing fabric is a Route 66 motorcycle print. It was one of those times where nothing was seeming right until I saw this and, instantly, I knew I had found my backing. My friend who was shopping with me had the same reaction. Sometimes it is a challenge to make the perfect masculine quilt. I am really happy with this one.

I finally got a label done as well. I started the label and my embroidery machine decided it was going to go kaput. I really thought it was the end. I looked up the error message, watched a video, and was able to get it running again, all on my own. So, for now, it is still functional. I can’t live without an embroidery machine for very long, so I am so relieved!

As you can see, hand sewing is not my strong suit. I usually include two of the sides in the binding but since my machine wasn’t functioning, I had originally expected to gift the quilt without a label, so I went ahead and bound it.

I will be sharing at Quilty Girl. Always fun to visit and see everyone’s progress.

  1. I like the controlled scrapiness of your blocks, nice color scheme. I like the quilting too. Have you used wool batt before? Curious to know if you’ve washed and dried the Hobb’s before.

    • I use the washable wool all the time. It washes well as long as you use cold water. dries well too. I love the fluffiness, and it quilts beautifully, but I am afraid their quality control might be slipping. Sometimes lately it has been thin in some areas.
