Rising Sea Levels

So, this was not what I was supposed to be doing, starting another new project. But, on Friday I was feeling it all, the fact that in the last month, my son had moved to Hawaii, my daughter had moved to Denver, and my best friend was in Florida without me. So, I needed something new.

I call this one Rising Sea Levels. Most of the fabrics in this quilt were purchased in Hawaii or Florida.

I started by just laying out the squares in the order I wanted them. I used 6.5-inch squares, and my sashing was 1.5 wide. The finished top is a large lap size. I still have to add borders so not sure how big I will actually go.

Then I added a lattice piece to each block, sewed them together, and then added the long strips. I trimmed it, as you can see in the top picture, but I need to trim it down a little more and get some borders added. I will need to find a nice backing before I can get this one quilted.

Then, on Saturday afternoon, I got all 150 of the bar blocks finished for my husband’s requested quilt. Surprising that the stack isn’t a bit taller. Now all the stars to make…Those won’t go together quite so quickly, I’m afraid.

Then, yesterday we impulsively decided lunch would be at Flix Brewhouse while we watched Project Hail Mary. We both have read the book and LOVED it! The movie was good; you always have to forgive a lot. I still recommend you read the book, or even better, listen to it on Audible. It is so much fun to hear the music when the alien speaks!

I saw this cutie when I picked up my vacuum the other day. It was very tempting to bring it home as my husband and I are great lovers of the Harry Potter story. It was $500 and I believe it did some embroidery as well, but I didn’t study it too intently otherwise I really would have had to bring it home. The last thing I need is another sewing machine, unless it is way better than the three Berninas, Singer featherweight, and Innova long arm that I already have.

I will be linking up with Monday Musings. Come on over and check out what everyone is working on.

  1. Your Rising Sea Levels is very interesting. And, looks like a lot of work! But I completely agree sometimes we just need to start something new. Finishes are great but sometimes something new should get going. I’ve got my next one picked out with some fabric ideas… don’t know when I’ll actually start it!
