I am making some Jelly Roll Stroll examples for my local quilt guild. We will be doing these in May and I want people to see that there are a few options. Here is my first example where you sew all the strips together on the 45 degree angle and then go to town with the sewing.
I started a lovely purple one yesterday where you add a square in between each strip. Hope to get it together this weekend.

We had to take an impromptu road trip last weekend and the best part about it, other than seeing my son and his girlfriend an extra time, was the lovely coffee shops along the way. Isn’t this tempting? Tous les Jours in Las Vegas. Highly recommend the guava pastry.

Mothership Coffee Roasters, also in Las Vegas. A great blueberry scone and amazing Lattes. I love a good latte!

We were only able to hit the quilt shops on a Sunday and the only one open, in all of Las Vegas, was The Christmas Goose quilt shop. I loved this quilt made of tiny little squares, maybe 3 inches?

My husband, who rarely goes with me to shops, saw this quilt on the wall and requested it for himself in honor of the 250th anniversary of the US that is quickly approaching. We grabbed some of their fabrics for it as well, but I will need more. Once we were home, I ventured to the only shop in town that has civil war era reproduction fabrics only to find out they are no longer carrying them. I can’t believe there are no civil war era reproduction fabrics available locally! I ordered some but they were not easily found online either. I will need more. If anyone has a good resource, please let me know.

Here are a few of what I was able to bring home…

So, the only thing I did really manage to finish this week is this block for my monthly quilt block swap. Quilting with my bestie yesterday, we were able to find enough reds and creams between the two of us that I didn’t have to go out and find more. That was a relief.
Today will be exercise and errand day so I won’t get much accomplished on the sewing front. Maybe tomorrow?
There will be another road trip coming up next week as we are helping my daughter move 400 miles away. This, just two weeks after my son has moved 3000+ miles away. This Momma’s heart is breaking while being so excited for both of them!
I will be linking up with Finished or not Friday at Quilty Girl.
Okay, love the B&W Jelly Roll race! I’ve been big on B&W quilts in the last few years and see I now need to cut some scrap strips and get sewing! Nothing like taking a trip out of town and finding some good eateries and quilt shops. Isn’t that nice that your husband has requested a quilt for the Semiquincentennial (and yes, I had to look that up, LOL)! For CW repro fabrics have you shopped online at ReproductionFabrics.com and on Etsy? I used to make a lot of quilts with CW repros and agree most local shops don’t carry alot of those types of prints but I have found many at those two sites. I’ve also found that Kim Diehl’s (Henry Glass Fabrics), Jo Morton’s and some of Edyta Sitar’s fabric lines (both with Andover Fabrics) pair well with or have a similar “vibe” as CW repros and may be easier to find in local stores. Should be a fun project!
