Next year’s monthly swap

Here is the block I have settled on for next year’s monthly swap at my quilt guild. I am really excited about this quilt and can’t wait to see what everyone creates for me. The idea will be to have a block themed for each month, so I did the December block as my example.

Here is the inspiration quilt, found on Pinterest. I did go back and try to find it again so that I could credit the artist, but I could not even find my pin and deep searching did not come up with it. If you know the creator of this lovely, please let me know!

So, I prepped all the denim blocks with a bit of interfacing since it had a little stretch to it and now, I still need to trim out all the heart centers, leaving about 1/4-inch edge so that it will ravel once sewn on.

Then I have included a foundation for each person to create their strip pieced blocks on. They will then attach the heart over the top of the foundation and sew it on with a decorative stitch, leaving room for that ravel.

Then I have asked them to add the top and left edges of squares so that when they come together, they will already have that pieced lattice.

I will also include a signature block for everyone to sign that will then become the label.

It was helpful to have this gadget to press the interfacing on the blocks! Don’t forget to use a pressing cloth though! Thankfully, I did not forget…this time…

I have also been working on a little Christmas quilt that will end up as a gift. My embroidery machine has been hard at work for days! This letter B took 65 minutes of stitching all by itself. I now have all the embroidery done and hopefully this little wall-hanging will be finished by end of day.

I will leave you with my favorite picture of the week. Life sure is hard for a spoiled sheep-a-doodle…

Happy stitching!
